Main Users of the Design:
- Children with access to household products with button batteries. Since portable electronics are easily accessible in the household, children often interact with them. However, because some household products have an insecure battery compartment, there have been many cases of children's ingestion of button batteries. Our design ensures that children are able to explore and play with household products without the fear of swallowing the batteries.
- Parents with access to household products with button batteries. Our project's goal is to design a product that is difficult and complicated for children to use but convenient and very simple for adults to use.
- Anyone with access to household products with button batteries (Long Term). In the long run, we hope that the idea can be implemented into all household products with button batteries, in which case the users will be anyone who uses products with button batteries.
Main Requirements for the Design:
- Child-resistant. The design should be difficult for children to open. (Appendix A)
- Durable. The same level of security should be maintained over time, even if the product gets slightly damaged.
- Seamless. The design for the casing should blend in as much as possible with the household item it is a part of. In this way, children may not even realize that there is a storage compartment, thus preventing interaction in the first place. (Appendix A)
- Convenient for Adults. While our design brings security to children, our design should be still convenient for adults to use.
- Regulatory Compliance. Although not design requirement, our product must follow regulatory guidelines in order to be viable in the market and for our client. (Appendix C, E)
